Cottingley Fairies is one of my favorite true stories. I've created illustration inspired by it.
In 1917, young cousins Elsie and Frances sought fairies by a stream. The girls captured images of fairies using a camera borrowed from Elsie's father. In 1920, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes and a spiritualist, became involved. He believed the images were evidence of the existence of fairies and used them to support his belief in the supernatural.
